What’s it like carrying out an apprenticeship at Rewired?

Skye McNally joined the Rewired team through the BBC Apprentice Hub in September last year.

The BBC Apprentice Hub is a Flexi-Job Apprenticeship Agency (FJAA) where the BBC acts as the host employer, arranging placements for aspiring creatives with local businesses. It's an exciting and engaging initiative that plugs a much-needed skills gap in the creative, cultural, gaming and digital sectors across the West Midlands.

Skye is undertaking her apprenticeship in content creation and has been working to deliver social media support to the wider Rewired team as well as taking on similar responsibilities to a junior account executive. Read on to hear more about her experience so far.

“I have been really enjoying my time at Rewired and feel as though I am learning valuable and transferable skills that I will utilise throughout my career journey. I have worked on a multitude of different tasks across both B2B and B2C PR, including tasks like coverage tracking, research, writing copy, and the creation and posting of social media posts across different platforms such as Instagram and LinkedIn.

“Although my apprenticeship isn’t based specifically around PR, working with Rewired has been an amazing insight into all of the work that goes into PR and has opened my mind up to a possible career within the industry.

“I am extremely passionate about providing experience and education in the West Midlands so when I was given the opportunity to go back to my secondary school this week to give a talk, I was more than happy to do so! It was amazing to share my experiences with young people and to hopefully open their eyes to the world of apprenticeships and to give them the information that I wish I was given when searching for my own apprenticeship.

“The Rewired team are incredibly helpful and supportive with all of my ideas and are always there to support and help me to grow my knowledge. It’s amazing to have such great colleagues around me whilst I am completing my apprenticeship, and I truly couldn’t ask for a better placement!”
